Another UCSD Excursion
by admin on Oct.06, 2009, under News, Photographs
A few weeks ago I was once again able to take the opportunity to visit the UCSD campus with Anita to do a photo excursion.
Although we were excited for such an opportunity, I often found my imagination dry while we were searching for things to take photographs of. One of the more iconic symbols on our campus–one that we are known well for, apparantly–is of course the lovely Sungod statue. Although a mere statue, it has been taken to new heights with the revelries and concerts put on every year for the sungod festival.Sculpted by French sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle in 1989, this statue has joined the Stuart Collection as UCSD’s plan to enrich our lives through art.

We continued on this journey to our venerable Geisel Library, named after the author of the Cat in the Hat . Of course, no one can miss out on the chance to photograph this unusual specimen in modern architecture–something so unusual it was even used as a spaceship in a sci-fi B movie! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geisel_Library#Pop_culture_references
After making it through Geisel we made our way to the new edition at UCSD, Price Center East. One thing I always joked about during my tenure at UCSD was, “If there’s anything we remember from school, it was the construction.” It’s very true, every time I visit campus something else is under construction. Price Center East is one of the newer editions and feature different fast food restaurants as well as the loft, a place to hear music and see art.
We made our way outside of the bookstore area and I was told to pretend I was sleeping on the AstroTurf that was mounted on a few of the stairs coming down from price center east. While I lay there in faux unconsciousness my eye spied a nice visual treat, so I awoke like the zombie I was and grabbed my camera.
Anita wanted to be able to check out her old apartment in Warren so we moved on towards that section of campus. On our way there we were intercepted by furry hairballs from hell. No, I don’t mean tribbles, I mean Jackrabbits. We slowly moved in on them and I got within 5 feet of a few of them, though with my lens it was not quite close enough.
Eventually we made it to where Anita used to live, and lo! Boys lived there now. Anita wanted a picture with her next to her old door:
And that’s how this story chooses to end itself.
